Squint Shot 050812

If you check back to yesterday's squint shot, you will see a lovely red brick house that stands at 421 East Grand River avenue.  Just to its east is a white-sided house at 425 East Grand River.  Years ago, this was the home of S.T. and Mate Blackmer.  They were the parents of Deo Minto Blackmer.

In 1896, S.T. Blackmer moved to Fowlerville -- the family coming from Milan, Michigan -- and opened a men's clothing store.  Following is an early picture of him.  In my upcoming biography of G.L. Adams, editor and publisher of The Fowlerville Review from 1874-1929, I've shown a picture of Mate Blackmer as a young girl.  I'd show it here but the book is very soon to be available so I'd like to keep a few surprises for then.
If you type "Blackmer" into the search box at the upper right hand corner, you can find numerous posts about this family.
